Lafarge is indeed a company that cares for the employees, professionally, wellfare etc.
The good thingsSupportive working environment with mutual respects between each other. A lot of continuous improvement initiatives across the operation allowing a lot of learning and development. Despite at times company may not be making much or even profit at all, our welfare and bonus/increment are still being considered to boost up everyone's motivation towards contributing better and grow along with the company. Best part is the company welcome young talents regardless gender, and superiors are very supportive in developing the young engineers to grow faster within the group
The challengesMarket condition making the pressure in the plant operation grew more intense. Having to initially manage the generation gaps exist in the operating plant but over time, the issue is very much managed.

    A very challenging workplace
The good thingsOpportunities of career advancement with training and benefits & perks. The company are willing to spend quite a lot (relatively to other local companies) in giving training, some not even requested for. Benefits and perks also maintained up to standard as much as possible for being a strong & reputable brand.
The challengesDue to the nature of the 24-hour operation in the plant, work-life balance can be a very lacking aspect. Also depending on your job, working environment might not be so suitable for long term employment in regards overall physical and mental health. Also being multi-national, there are some aspects with too much bureaucracy which can slows down / over-complicate work to be done. Not for the faint of heart.

    Nothing short of challenging!
The good thingsSince I was only a trainee, my opinion and perception might differ from a full-time employee. Nevertheless, the close-knit concept and the community were very hospitable and caring. I learnt a whole lot of things related to my studies and have met many interesting old-timers and seniors who were happy to teach me anything I want to know.
The challengesThe overly dusty environment have a high percentage of resulting in long-term health problems in the future. You have to be extremely pro-active if you want to do a better job in contributing for the company. Cement plant involves heavy machines and people's lives are constantly at risk, so you have to be a veteran or at least received a solid 2 to 3 years of training first before working here in my honest opinion.

    Operations engineer
The good thingsGood training and development for young engineer and new comers. It is a good place for those who like to apply a technical knowledge in details which is better than competitor. Strong technical support from the group expert is exceptional for the person development. The opportunity to go to higher position is good as proper development and training are provided.
The challengesHeavy workload and less worklife balance. sometimes need to work in weekend and public holiday due to plant continuously having a problem. Aging workforce with big generation gaps is a threat when work in a plant and sometimes you tend to get a wrong info. frequent management change i.e manager is a problem where it makes the decision inconsistent.

    Great career start
The good thingsProper structure with clear JD. Typical manufacturing business. Great exposure with good mix of different culture talents in the company(esp in HQ). Many activities for active individuals to join in. Youngster in some departments tend to have positive bond among themselves beyond working.
The challengesMerger took place last year and some system may still need time to fit the company despite theoretical match. As cement/concrete business is a typical traditional business, most of the individuals stayed a long period in the company thus difficult to make a big change in process and people.
