"Skilled in maintaining mission-critical IT and OT systems with a strong focus on uptime, cybersecurity, and system reliability in power generation."
The good thingsComing from an IT background, I’ve always enjoyed working with systems, networks, and troubleshooting technology. In the power plant environment, that foundation has expanded significantly. Now, I get to apply my IT skills in a much more dynamic and high-stakes setting — working with control systems, DCS, SCADA, controllers, network infrastructure, and other essential tools and software that directly support the plant's performance and safety. Also, I enjoy the collaboration with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams. It’s a multidisciplinary environment where I’m constantly learning about both traditional plant operations and evolving digital technologies like automation, cybersecurity, and predictive maintenance systems. Every day brings a new challenge, and that keeps the work engaging. I'm proud to be part of something essential — keeping the plant running smoothly and helping ensure the lights stay on for thousands of people.
The challengesComing from an IT background, I see the potential for increased efficiency, reliability, and even cybersecurity improvements through updated systems or automation tools. However, in critical infrastructure environments like power plants, change tends to happen slowly — and understandably so, due to safety and regulatory concerns. That said, it can sometimes be frustrating when outdated systems or manual processes limit productivity or create unnecessary downtime. I believe there's a lot of value in finding a balance — respecting what works while also being open to innovation. As a System Technician, I understand how critical system uptime is. The fear of a trip — whether caused by a network failure, system misconfiguration, or delayed response — means there's very little room for error. This pressure can be intense at times, especially during troubleshooting or system upgrades, where decisions must be made quickly and accurate.
