Chill working environment with talented colleaguesThe good thingsWithin the School of Information Technology where I worked at, colleagues and supervisors were very understanding. They are there to solve problems, and are there to advise rather than criticize or boss people around. There's no micromanagement, everything is raised through meetings and clear-cut communication, then everyone does their own thing and it all comes together. This is how it should be. Can't say the same for other departments since the School of IT has some of their own ways of doing things.
The challengesAdmin rights for software-based lecturers please. What a hassle for software engineers when they have to go to IT helpdesk every single time to get them to install something. Come on.
Facilities for employees could be better, like maybe more staff-only areas, better pantry, toilets, etc. Although I have my own office, the facilities that could improve my productivity and relax are better at my previous workplace. Here, I usually go out of the university to get my mind clear, otherwise I'm going to get bothered by students all day - not that I don't enjoy helping students, but I'm doing research too and need some downtime and inspiration.
