Great place to start a career with rich cultural exposure but demanding and shifting work hours. The good thingsIf you are a fresh graduate looking for a start in career I would suggest this place. It opens you to mixed-cultured environment, which can be a challenge but long service duration, mental agility and standing out will give you an opportunity for a promotion (At least in my experience with the production department). What made it memorable:
1. Exposure to manufacturing industry and processes.
2. Expsosure to China working culture and work discipline. Culutral Exchange at a deeper level with mainland China colleagues - I know the generalisation but some might surprise you with their opinions.
3. Your ability to understand and speak Mandarin from zero to basic is highly likely with the management level still supervised and placed by Mainland Chinese.
4. Colleagues from differenct backgrounds, drive and motivation makes working here quite colorful and having people who understands the challenges can help you move through the day a bit better.
5. Free meal once a day.
The challenges1. Multinational Companies can be a hit or miss depending on the culture, the working culture can be hard to swallow for some.
2. I think the work scheduling needs to be researched more to accomodate a healthier balance for the staff, previously at Incoming and Outgoing QC dept the schedule can be hectic. As a leader this point is something that has been heavy to me. Sometimes shift changes from being 8am-12am (2 shifts) and then suddenly change to 24 hours due to shipment load. Sometimes we are able to break it down to 3 shifts, but sometimes with short notice people need to work 12 hrs. This is always changing and can be detrimental to health as the rest schedule is ultimately affected as well. Last I heard the dept has expanded but the schedule is still unable to be constant.
3. With that, taking annual leaves aren't easy as well. Since it will change the schedule depending on the labour demands. Unused leaves can be carried forward but still a bit hard to utilise until expiry.
