Toxic Management Overshadows Hardworking StaffThe good thingsThe staff at ESCAPE Penang are very supportive and cooperative. It’s rewarding to see customers happy and enjoying the attractions while staying safe. The team works hard and appreciates clear, direct leadership, which makes day-to-day operations smoother when everyone collaborates.
The challengesHonestly, the biggest issue there is management culture. Three managers (HR, Security, and Safety) act like they are the real bosses of the place while the CEO seems unaware of what is happening on the ground.
The workplace environment was really toxic. I was not allowed to use my own office during working hours because the three managers preferred to stay there and treat it like their personal space to relax, while I was expected to be out around the park working continuously for 8 hours straight managing operations.
Staff complaints were often ignored, and the HR manager could be rude and dismissive towards employees. The Security Manager and Safety Manager focused more on acting like management instead of handling their actual responsibilities — for example, guests smoking in non-smoking areas or ignoring park rules were often not properly enforced, and safety concerns were sometimes overlooked. Overall, I ended up handling most of the operations, security, and any safety issues
