Learning Opportunities Overshadowed by a Poor Management
The good thingsYou get to use a lot of tools, which is great for your resume. You also learn many new things because you often have to pick up skills outside your original role. One good thing about the high turnover in this company is that people eventually realize their worth and choose not to stay in the toxic environment they were put in.
The challengesIt was fine in the beginning and the normal level of work pressure was manageable. But, things went downhill when a new manager was appointed. Change can be good and can lead to improvement but the changes introduced by this manager were overly self-centered and unrealistic. He consistently made empty promises and engaged in grand talk that he himself could not handle. He sweet-talked upper management while those below him suffered to meet expectations he could not achieve himself. He openly stated that we were replaceable and that anyone unhappy with his decisions was free to leave as he already the budget to hire replacements—and we did. Employees’ opinions were dismissed as being “too much” and despite concerns being raised multiple times, no real change occurred because upper management continued to support him. While I understand HR exists to protect the company, they should also push managers to do better and support employees as well. Turnover is higher than my cortisol levels.

Good exposure and teamwork but poor planning, ignored feedback, favoritism, and high turnover.
The good thingsGood exposure to a wide range of tools and clients, as you are required to handle many different tasks at the same time. Opportunity to gain exposure to other roles, as you may be asked to assist with tasks outside your official job scope. Teamwork is generally good, with most team members being supportive and cooperative.
The challengesRules and directions change frequently depending on management decisions, leading to inconsistency. New initiatives are often implemented without proper planning or clear structure. Employee feedback is rarely acknowledged, and staff opinions are often ignored. When an individual underperforms, instead of addressing the issue directly, the workload is shifted to other employees to “cover” or monitor that person. We are often treated like secretaries, having to constantly remind others of their responsibilities and are blamed if something is missed. High turnover rate, with people leaving almost every month, which can be mentally draining for the remaining staff. Employees are frequently asked to do unnecessary tasks just to create a good image for clients, even when clients later question the purpose. Management tends to ignore repeated feedback and obvious issues, choosing instead to proceed based on personal decisions while claiming upper management support.

After 14 years in the professional world, I can definitively say that my recent experience with this company was, without a doubt, the worst company I have ever encountered. The fundamental dysfunctions, whether it was the glaring lack of growth opportunities, the consistently poor leadership, or the pervasive toxic work environment, made it an exceptionally challenging and, frankly, unprecedented period in my career.
The good thingsIt offered a unique perspective on organizational dynamics and the impact of poor culture. I gained invaluable insights into how various factors can erode employee morale and productivity, which will certainly inform my future choices
The challenges"The worst part about my last job was undoubtedly the management. My manager was a micromanager who stifled any initiative, making every task feel like a burden. There was no trust, and instead of support, I often felt criticized and undermined, even when I was doing my best work." "Leadership at my previous company was completely disconnected from the employees on the ground. Decisions were made without understanding the daily realities, leading to constant last-minute changes and unrealistic expectations. It felt like we were always fighting fires that could have been avoided with better planning and communication from the top.
