Trends started in Papua New Guinea’s market where Mr. Joe Lai (founder) realized that there was an empty space for a beauty salon that would provide high quality hairdressing at a very reasonable cost where he opened his very first Trends Salon at Garden City in Boroko, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.Over the years of experience and with thorough knowledge in the salon industry, Joe expanded to several locations in Port Moresby including LAE. What is more encouraging to Joe was -- Trends became the first company to establish a multi-cultural beauty salon in Papua New Guinea, first to import international multi-cultural hair and beauty care products, first to begin to train PNG Nationals as hairstylists, first company to send PNG hairstylists to international training programs for international continuing education courses, first to established the first spa & wellness centre… just to mention some of the company’s achievements. And, even at present is continuously providing employment and trainings to the community in the area of hair, beauty and well-being.The company continuously brings international instructors into the country to educate people in a multi-cultural hair and beauty care while helping uplift the country’s industry’s standards. Trends also developed a strategic alliance with international partners. Trends has now a presence in other countries for the salon and spa services in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The company has also focused in supplying hair, skin and beauty products to a more diverse customer base and is now the leading and the largest distributor of over 1000 multi-cultural hair and beauty care products nationwide and in abroad with regional distribution centres in Australia and Hong Kong.As the country’s economy in general improves and individual cities and towns grow, so then will there be a need for a high quality hairdressing at a reasonable cost, and Trends had created its own experts for more than two decades that are trained to provide beauty services to its multi-cultural clients, and answers to the daily needs of beauty practitioners, aspiring beauty care professionals and salon owners.Joe took a good look at the industry and saw that there was a nationwide demand in the beauty industry which prompted him to diversify and Trends became to be a leader in distributing multi-cultural hair & beauty care in the country and The South Pacific region extends from the Philippines to New Zealand and includes: Melanesian, Polynesians, Micronesians, Asians and Europeans. Through the years, Trends has also focused in supplying hair, skin, and beauty products to a more diverse customer base.Trends Beauty Academy envisioning in empowering women of Papua New Guinea wherein anyone who has the passion, desire and willingness to be trained and can become beauty care professionals & salon owners. In all of his endeavors and achievements, Joe did not stop envisioning in empowering women of Papua New Guinea without compromising their traditional culture and values, this lead him to open TRENDS BEAUTY ACADEMY. With so much dedication and hard work, Joe now owns and manages probably one of the most diverse Beauty industry servicing Papua New Guinea for over 20 years.
