Creating New Furniture From OldUnearth is a less than year old startup working towards both keeping furniture out of landfills as well as giving our fellow under-privileged Malaysians a chance at a better life. Our strategy to achieve this is to build a true circular economy for 2nd-hand furniture in the SEA region.We offer a white-glove service whereby we handle everything from pickup, repairs, sales & marketing, and delivery. We also give back up to 50% of the revenue of each sale to the original supplier, which has exceeded RM350,000 in payouts.So far we've kept 10,000 pieces of furniture out of the landfill, which we estimate to be more than 150,000kg saved from the trash.Our team is made up of a back-office support staff and field & warehousing teams. The back-office staff builds tech solutions to make the lives of the field teams easier, while our field teams are the real heroes labouring to extract furniture from difficult to access homes.What Keeps Us Up At NightHave we made our people better?While we understand that our people may eventually move on from us, we want them to leave as an overall better person, compared to when they first started working with us.A conscious decision was made at the start to hire underprivileged communities (which stemmed from an intense personal motivation for the founding team) - where we aim to bridge the economic and social gap by providing upskilling and reskilling opportunities and initiatives for them to become self-sufficient and self-sustaining.Have we halted enough trash from polluting our world?Landfills are a terrible way to manage junked items. It's like filling up your spare bedroom with garbage, and then sealing off the door once it's full. Or worse, chucking it into your swimming pool.For every item that we fail to repair, or are forced to dispose of, we always ask if there was something else we could have done.If at any point you've contemplated the above problems and said "there must be something we can do about it", please get in touch with us.
