What's it like to be a Building Supervisor?
Building Supervisors monitor and ensure smooth operations in a building. They are in charge of overseeing building maintenance, safety and policy compliance. Building Supervisors are also responsible for listening to and addressing the concerns of office or residential tenants. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and customer service are key skills for the role. Building Managers work in condominiums, office buildings, industrial properties, and academic institutions. Building Supervisors may be promoted from administrative roles within a building, or be hired after supervisory experience in other industries.
Tasks and duties
- Complying with government regulations for building safety.
- Implementing building policies and protocols.
- Supervising housekeeping, security, and administrative staff.
- Creating memos and announcements for new policies and emergency procedures.
- Addressing tenant concerns and rule violations.
- Reporting to the building manager.
- Patrolling the building and monitoring operations.
How to become a Building Supervisor
A bachelor degree and years of relevant experience are necessary to work as a Building Supervisor. Leadership, project management, and communication skills may be an advantage.
