What's it like to be an Education Consultant?
Education Consultants offer guidance on all aspects of educational planning, from school selection to careers counselling. Their role involves assisting students and educational institutions to reach their objectives, which could involve advising on curriculum development or guiding schools on policy changes. Education Consultants often work independently but may also be employed by government bodies, private companies or educational institutions.
Tasks and duties
- Assessing and identifying needs and goals of schools or educational institutions.
- Designing and implementing teaching programs and instructional material.
- Evaluating and tracking the effectiveness of educational plans and programs.
- Providing training and guidance to educators or administrators in new methodologies, technologies or procedures.
- Staying abreast of the latest educational research, materials and emerging trends.
- Consulting with policymakers to influence or establish educational policies and standards.
- Building and maintaining relationships with educators, school administrators and other stakeholders.
How to become an Education Consultant
At least a diploma is required for the role. Customer service skills and a background in education are an advantage. This is a high-level position that typically requires at least a diploma and years of experience in education or education administration. A previous background in an executive position in schools and a master degree are highly preferred.
- Graduate with a bachelor degree in Education, Educational Administration, Curriculum Development, or another related field.
- Undergo an internship at a school, academic agency, or another related company.
- Gain years of experience in the education industry, getting promoted to higher ranks.
- Build a strong network of education stakeholders and maintain an active presence in education events and school communities.
- Consider getting a master or doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Management.
