What's it like to be an Inspector?
Inspectors examine products to look for any defects, deformations, or imperfections that could affect the goods’ performance. An Inspector works full-time in a variety of industries in a factory or plant setting. They typically spend their days checking products and reporting any defects to relevant departments.
Tasks and duties
- Visiting factories and warehouses to inspect products and raw materials.
- Noting any defects, deformations, or damage.
- Preparing inspection reports for relevant departments.
- Coordinating with production, engineering, and management officers for any quality-related concerns.
- Providing training sessions to new employees with regard to quality control matters and production standards.
How to become an Inspector
To become an Inspector, you usually need a qualification in quality management, manufacturing, engineering, or a similar field.

Complete and pass the SPM programme.
- 2.
Consider pursuing higher education and complete a diploma or bachelor degree in quality management, manufacturing, engineering, or another relevant field.
- 3.
Gain at least three to five years’ worth of working experience in quality control.
- 4.
After gaining experience as an Inspector, consider progressing to a role such as Quality Director or becoming a Freelance Quality Consultant.
