What's it like to be a Kindergarten Teacher?
Kindergarten Teachers give young students the foundation so they may be better prepared later on in elementary school. They do this by planning and conducting lesson plans appropriate for the children’s age and capabilities. These include lessons on social skills, fine motor skills through movement and art activities, and personal hygiene. Kindergarten Teachers also teach introductory lessons in maths, reading, and writing by hand.
Tasks and duties
- Holding classes that seamlessly incorporate lessons, playtime, and other activities.
- Instructing children on good classroom behaviour and social values.
- Motivating students to learn and participate in activities.
- Assessing students’ work, and holding conferences with their parents to better facilitate learning.
- Writing children’s progress reports.
- Maintaining a secure, orderly, and learning-conducive setting.
- Attending required seminars and conferences.
- Upholding school rules and standards.
It is important for Kindergarten Teachers to create a safe and positive learning environment for children. Through this, they can encourage students to express their needs and emotions, and to socialise with their peers. Apart from academic skills, Kindergarten Teachers also focus on a child’s behavioural development. Because they teach a variety of skills, Kindergarten Teachers should be knowledgeable on basic subjects such as art, maths, science, and others.
