A Machine Operator is expected to abide by safety regulations within the plant, factory or construction site at all times. For Machine Operators, attention to detail is also important to ensure that no mishaps or mishandlings occur on-site. Those interested in working as a machine operator can rely on a steady routine each week, as they are assigned their respective machines and work stations. They must have a high skill in operating special or heavy machinery, and must be physically fit.Tasks and duties
- Setting up machines, including calibration and cleaning.
- Manning machines during the production cycle.
- Completing required tasks for the day with limited supervision.
- Feeding parts or raw material to the machine.
- Conducting inspection and testing of machines to ensure that the machine is free of defects or errors.
- Fixing any errors on the spot that may occur during the operator’s shift.
- Performing regular maintenance and repair work on the machine.
- Controlling and adjusting machine settings and configurations.
How to become a Machine Operator
Although formal qualifications are not required to become a Machine Operator, companies usually prefer secondary school certificate holders.
