What's it like to be a Painter?
Painters are responsible for coating the interior and exterior surfaces of buildings. Their job is highly physical, entailing moving heavy furniture and equipment, coating large surfaces with paint rollers and brushes and climbing ladders for ceilings and high walls. Apart from physical stamina, knowledge of colour theory and supply budgeting are also ideal.Tasks and duties
- Planning painting jobs by studying project instructions and goals.

- Sourcing painting materials and presenting quotes.
- Preparing a working environment, including moving heavy objects and protecting other surfaces from paint.
- Mixing paint colours and applying varnishes.
- Applying decorative finishes.
How to become a Painter
Formal education is not required to be a Painter, but technical skills are essential to provide quality outcomes for clients. Experience can be gained through an apprenticeship or certificate courses.
- 1.Complete at least secondary education. Knowledge of maths and science will be highly beneficial.
- 2.Understand colour theory and colour finishes.
- 3.Gain experience by volunteering or through an apprenticeship.
- 4.Complete a certificate in painting, coating or blasting from a technical institute. Vocational studies are an advantage in securing painting jobs.
