What's it like to be a Real Estate Agent?
Real Estate Agents—also called Property Agents in Malaysia—help clients look for an available house or commercial space for sale and assist in the negotiation process. They typically work as an employee of a brokerage firm. Their typical day involves setting up appointments with clients, giving a tour of properties clients are interested in, and helping facilitate the purchasing process.Tasks and duties
- Planning and organising marketing activities such as open houses.
- Creating marketing collateral such as flyers and newsletters.
- Staying updated on current industry trends.
- Conducting research on pending, active, and sold listings.
- Scheduling viewing of properties clients are interested in.
- Submitting complete documents to relevant authorities.
How to become a Real Estate Agent
Aspiring Real Estate Agents need not complete a specific degree, but certain firms may require at least a high school or college diploma.
- 1.Attain at least a high school diploma or a college degree. You must have a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). At least one of these credits must be from accounting, commerce, mathematics, or science subjects.
- 2.Attend The Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers (BOVAEA) two-year course to secure a diploma in estate agency and become a real estate agent trainee.
- 3.Register with the BOVAEA as a probationary estate agent.
- 4.Undergo another two years' worth of practical training under the supervision of a fully-qualified real estate agent.
- 5.Pass a Test of Professional Competence (TPC), which involves a final professional interview, as well as a written log of practical work.
- 6.Any experience in sales will be advantageous as becoming a Real Estate Agent requires building rapport with clients. Try applying for jobs in sales to build your power of persuasion and your presentation skills.
