What's it like to be a Teacher?
Teachers educate students in an engaging environment that motivates learning, curiosity, and discipline. Teachers not only conduct classes but develop lesson plans in accordance with the school's and the national curricula. It is important for a Teacher to have patience and comprehension skills when it comes to gauging a student’s ability and needs. Depending on their level, they must also report to a higher-level instructor, department head, or to the school administrator.Tasks and duties
- Developing lesson plans in accordance with the school's curriculum and policies.
- Coming up with classroom activities to promote student engagement and interaction with other pupils.
- Maintaining safety and orderliness of students in the classroom.
- Creating progress reports on students.
- Building rapport and providing updates to students’ parents.
- Working closely with fellow teachers to plan and coordinate teaching tasks.
- Grading projects and school paperwork.
How to become a Teacher
To become a Teacher, begin by choosing the kind of students you want to teach: what age group, if the students have special needs, or have preference for alternative modes of teaching.
- 1.Pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), also known as the Malaysian Certificate of Education.
- 2.Undergo the 1-year Program Persediaan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PPISMP) and enter the four-year Program Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PISMP) at Teacher’s Training Institutes (IPG). You can also complete a matriculation, or pass the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), a Malaysian Higher School Certificate examination.
- 3.If taking the matriculation or STPM routes, apply for an education degree at university. You can also opt to not get an education degree and earn experience while working at a non-government organisation, which helps individuals work as a Primary or Secondary Teacher in public schools.
