What's it like to be a Tutor?
Tutors provide one-on-one or group teaching services to pupils who may be having a hard time grasping concepts at school. They must be well-versed in the subject at hand and can patiently explain lessons. Tutoring sessions may be done face-to-face or online, and are scheduled on school days after class hours or weekly, depending on the learners' availability. Tutors may charge rates on a per hour or session basis.Tasks and duties
- Establishing lesson goals.
- Reviewing lessons with students.
- Explaining concepts.
- Assisting students with their assignments.
- Coming up with learning assessment tools such as quizzes and games.
- Preparing learners for exams.
- Providing progress reports to parents and teachers.
How to become a Tutor
Aspiring Tutors will find that holding a degree in education or the subject being taught will be advantageous. They should be able to prove their expertise level by highlighting their academic record and credentials on their resume.
- 1.Pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), also known as the Malaysian Certificate of Education.
- 2.Undergo the 1-year Program Persediaan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PPISMP) and enter the four-year Program Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PISMP) at Tutor’s Training Institutes (IPG).
- 3.You can also complete a matriculation, or pass the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), a Malaysian Higher School Certificate examination.
- 4.If taking the matriculation or STPM routes, apply for an education degree. You can also opt to not get an education degree and apply as a Tutor in a primary or secondary school setting. Alternatively, you can also join companies which offer tutoring classes online.
