    Workforce Manager

Gained valuable exposure to global operations and workforce planning.
The good thingsI have had the privilege of working with a very well-established international company that provided me with the opportunity to grow across multiple areas of workforce management. My experience with IBM Consulting has allowed me to develop expertise in global operations, strategic workforce planning, and leadership, while benefiting from the resources and professional development opportunities of a multinational organization.
The challengesChange happens quickly in today’s business landscape, and I believe that human connection is essential to navigating it successfully. In workforce management, building trust, fostering collaboration, and maintaining strong relationships are far more impactful than relying solely on technology. For this role, I see human connection as the foundation for driving results, motivating teams, and ensuring sustainable success.

It’s a good stepping stone for new graduates or if you’re looking to work 3-5 years here. Your work experience and environment is highly dependent on the team/department you’re in.
The good things- The working environment here is positive. Team leads and managers are willing to provide support and guidance to their staffs. - Flexibility is still here with regards to WFH, though it’s highly dependent on the team leads. - The work here is fairly simple and siloed. You’re only expected to your job scope which is good if that’s what you’re looking for. - Office location is near MRT and next to a mall which is convenient.
The challenges- Poor/lack of staff benefits and slow yearly salary progression unless you get a promotion and band upgrade. - Yearly performance bonus is very low. Expect 10% - 20% of your MONTHLY salary as your bonus, and this is if you’re exceeding expectations. - Poor work life balance. We’re expected to work during public holidays, major long holidays, Christmas and NYE for the sake of supporting the business. The pay and bonus do not commensurate with the effort required to support. - Strong backup culture. If you are teamed with a deadweight then you are expected to cover his/her tasks. - Mediocrity is rewarded. It doesn’t pay to go the extra mile.

    Good and fast-paced company.
The good thingsIt's a good environment where one can learn a lot. You'll be communicating with teams all over the world.
The challengesThere is no work-life balance since you have to be available and on standby all the time, and you have to follow international time when scheduling your work.

Great office culture, flexible; NO worklife balance, heavy workload with average pay and benefits, high turnover.
The good thingsI enjoyed working in IBM Malaysia (Accounting center) with the flexible and trusted environment, job autonomy culture. The managers and team leads are nice people (only a small number, specific one are kinda toxic - but toxic people is everywhere right hahaha :) We are given freedom to handle our work assigned with our own approach as long as following the accounting policy and complete it by due. The people in the office are welcoming and warm, very nice people to communicate with. Great learning platforms available, IBM works with many learning platform providers where you can access free course materials and complete them, get certified.
The challengesThe workloads are pretty huge and high complexity due to the economic, business changes affecting how the company is selling their products/ service. And no doubt with high employee turnarounds due to overwhelming of workloads, lack of trained and skilled employees (many experienced and great talents left) and also another high turnover reason is result from the previous company spin off process (Kyndryl spin-off in year 2020, 2021). Ever since the Accounting center have had onboarded high volume of new employees but not well-trained. Training system/ framework itself in the Accounting center has regress, or basically rather to fair to say not much individuals (experienced accountants/ team leads/ managers) willing to train/ rather doesn't have sufficient time to train new hire (there are limited one willing to, but very limited like 2 or 3 of them only). The new hire are often expected to pick up their workloads once they onboard but they are often not communicated with clear expectation on job delivery quality, timeliness, importance to work with internal stakeholders, hence is often slipping off the deadlines, delivered low quality work. Team leads and managers, or could be other capable accountants then are the one picking up the incomplete work task/ troubled issued cause by low quality of work done previously, indirectly increase the workload of team leads/ managers and taken away more of the working hours to complete more tasks. Just take note there is no work-life balance in the company (i believe this also happens everywhere huhuhu) but rather please expect work-life integration. You need to expect to work OT at night and during the weekends if you're working on any project where require additional work hours of your daily routine to complete so, or you are working on a complex accounting assignment that you need to deal closely with the HQ parties in US If you are sick and is on MC, just expect someone from the office would still contact you for work related questions if there is nobody willing to back you up (or your backup has limited information they might not know too much of the work details). There are benefits given like the appreciate points (example like bluepoints), salary increment/ adjustment if you do well and outperform in the project/ work assigned, but do not expect it will be a lot given the company business is not doing quite good and tight budgets communicated clearly since beginning of the year to all existing employees.

    Work flexibility and work-life balance
The good thingsMeeting work dateline depends on the field, but mostly are flexible and can be discussed within the organization. Work-life balance is also great.

    Good for fresh graduate
The good thingsIt is a wonderful place for fresh graduate to kick start their career. They offer 2 years Fresh Graduate program and prepare to get promoted to become Senior. Offering many platforms and opportunities to showcase yourself to your co-workers.
The challengesSince it is a Shared Service Center, hence, politic is there. Not a place for employees who just want to focus at work and not to socialize. You need build your network and connecting for you to climb the career ladder.

Shared service is always volatile, prone to changes
The good thingsThe only thing worth staying for was the benefits package, even that was pared down as time goes on.
The challengesThe additional responsibilities that were piled on, having to cover additional headcounts (i.e. doing two persons job with one person's pay), unbalanced performance reviews
