Great office culture, flexible; NO worklife balance, heavy workload with average pay and benefits, high turnover. The good thingsI enjoyed working in IBM Malaysia (Accounting center) with the flexible and trusted environment, job autonomy culture. The managers and team leads are nice people (only a small number, specific one are kinda toxic - but toxic people is everywhere right hahaha :)
We are given freedom to handle our work assigned with our own approach as long as following the accounting policy and complete it by due. The people in the office are welcoming and warm, very nice people to communicate with. Great learning platforms available, IBM works with many learning platform providers where you can access free course materials and complete them, get certified.
The challengesThe workloads are pretty huge and high complexity due to the economic, business changes affecting how the company is selling their products/ service. And no doubt with high employee turnarounds due to overwhelming of workloads, lack of trained and skilled employees (many experienced and great talents left) and also another high turnover reason is result from the previous company spin off process (Kyndryl spin-off in year 2020, 2021). Ever since the Accounting center have had onboarded high volume of new employees but not well-trained. Training system/ framework itself in the Accounting center has regress, or basically rather to fair to say not much individuals (experienced accountants/ team leads/ managers) willing to train/ rather doesn't have sufficient time to train new hire (there are limited one willing to, but very limited like 2 or 3 of them only).
The new hire are often expected to pick up their workloads once they onboard but they are often not communicated with clear expectation on job delivery quality, timeliness, importance to work with internal stakeholders, hence is often slipping off the deadlines, delivered low quality work. Team leads and managers, or could be other capable accountants then are the one picking up the incomplete work task/ troubled issued cause by low quality of work done previously, indirectly increase the workload of team leads/ managers and taken away more of the working hours to complete more tasks.
Just take note there is no work-life balance in the company (i believe this also happens everywhere huhuhu) but rather please expect work-life integration. You need to expect to work OT at night and during the weekends if you're working on any project where require additional work hours of your daily routine to complete so, or you are working on a complex accounting assignment that you need to deal closely with the HQ parties in US If you are sick and is on MC, just expect someone from the office would still contact you for work related questions if there is nobody willing to back you up (or your backup has limited information they might not know too much of the work details).
There are benefits given like the appreciate points (example like bluepoints), salary increment/ adjustment if you do well and outperform in the project/ work assigned, but do not expect it will be a lot given the company business is not doing quite good and tight budgets communicated clearly since beginning of the year to all existing employees.
