Kolej Islam Malaya (Muslim College Malaya) was established on 24th February 1955, with the gathering of 55 students from all over the Federation of Malaya including Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Sabah and Sarawak, who had performed successfully in the Entrance Examination. Soon, a few main courses to be introduced at the College were drawn up and approved by the Council of KIM. The official Opening Ceremony of the College, which was almost a national occasion, was held on 8th April 1955. On the previous day, the Working Committee was replaced by the first Council of the College under its Constitution and YBhg. Dato’ Alsagoff was elected the first ChairmanThe funding for the establishment of KIM was through waqf contributions, or endowments from Muslim communities in the Federation of Malaya, Singapore,Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, as well as contributions from various non-Muslim communities. The College finally had its own building when the late HRH Sultan Sir Hishamuddin Alam Shah Al-Haj generously donated one of his palaces, including its surrounding lands, as college grounds. KIM thus began operations in the former Istana Jemaah in the royal town of Klang, Selangor.KIM emerged as an institution of higher education for Islam, and recognised by a number of prestigious centres of Islamic learning and education. These included the Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, as well as a number of other universities in the United Kingdom. In fact, KIM was already an institution of higher learning prior to the establishment of the prestigious University of Malaya in 1962.

What’s it like working at Islamic University of Malaysia?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at the Islamic University of Malaysia value the good teamwork and friendly relationships with colleagues, which helps create a supportive work environment. The university provides opportunities for growth by exposing employees to new experiences and knowledge across different areas. Networking opportunities with influential figures and vendors allow for enhancing communication and presentation skills. The compensation and benefits are satisfactory, with additional perks.

However, there are some potential areas for improvement, such as management and organization, with a need for clearer command structures and task allocation. Employees may need to handle ad-hoc tasks and urgent matters with tight deadlines. There is also an expectation for employees to be independent and figure out tasks on their own.
