    Despite the challenges, I value my experience at PETRONAS and hope to have the opportunity to return once the recruitment freeze is lifted.
    The good thingsThe working environment was very supportive and positive, fostering good teamwork and collaboration. The compensation offered was competitive, especially for fresh graduates, making it a great starting point for career growth. There were also plenty of employee engagement activities that helped create a strong sense of community and belonging within the workplace.
    The challengesAs a contract staff, I was assigned responsibilities and workload similar to that of permanent employees, but without access to equivalent benefits or job security. Although there was an initial assurance of potential conversion to permanent status with at least 6 months’ prior notice on contract decisions, the retrenchment came unexpectedly and with short notice. This created a challenging situation where I had to urgently seek new employment, competing with other experienced hires facing similar circumstances.

    I would eagerly welcome the opportunity to gain further experience with PETRONAS in the future. It was truly one of the most valuable and enriching learning experiences of my journey into the corporate world.
    The good thingsI learnt diverse scope of jobs during my Protege-GEES program. Despite my major in Graphic Design, I also get the chance to assist my manager and executive doing a project, communicate with third-party, get exposure more on corporate life. It was a great experience for me.
    The challengesOne of my challenges was, time management, I was struggling between few tasks at one time. But I managed by setting up a prioritization, and get it done on time. Other than that, I feel like I was lack in communication skills, but thankfully I have the best supportive manager and colleagues where they made me do it and put their trust on me.

    Despite reminding you to work only for 8 hours, they still expect you to work overtime.
    The good thingsyou will meet people with various backgrounds unrelated to their current job position, bringing unique perspectives and skills that enrich their current roles. There are many benefits (depending on the team) and generous holidays provided.
    The challengesSometimes, diverse backgrounds and skills can slow task progress due to miscommunication. There is a strong focus on reaching KPIs, but hands-on tasks are often passed to lower-level staff, leading to overwork and responsibilities beyond their job scope. Also, I have observed instances of unfairness among races towards others in the team.

    Good exposure and work in fast-paced environment.
    The good thingsThis industrial training has been a really fulfilling and memorable experience. I firmly feel that industrial training is extremely advantageous for everyone and helps both the individual and the business thrive. I have gained a lot of experience, knowledge, and exposure throughout these 26 weeks of industrial training. All of the exposures gave me the confidence to confront a future filled with more difficult circumstances. In addition, I learn how to prepare for the realities of a working environment, which are distinguish from those of university.

    The challengesDue to the company being a GLC, your starting salary may be lower than the average market and may not tally with your given experience. Due to the top-heavy organization structure of Group Legal, promotion opportunities would need to be earned and strived for, as competition may be fierce.
