What’s it like working at Petronas?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Petronas appreciate the supportive and helpful colleagues who create a collaborative team environment, along with opportunities to learn diverse skills across the business. The modern work environment with excellent facilities and an energetic atmosphere contributes to positive working conditions. Competitive compensation and benefits, including performance-based bonuses, are valued by employees, particularly fresh graduates. The company's investment in upskilling and leadership development provides clear pathways for career growth, whilst operating at world-class standards with strong governance and compliance gives employees a sense of professional pride.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Management can be demanding, with high expectations and long meetings that may feel intensive at times. Working late and during weekends may be required in certain roles, which can affect work-life balance. Contract staff may experience similar workloads to permanent employees but with different benefits structures. The company's detailed procedures and approval processes ensure quality and compliance but can sometimes extend turnaround times. The fast-paced, agile environment requires employees to be quick learners and adapt rapidly, whilst some roles may involve repetitive administrative tasks that could limit skill variety for those seeking diverse experiences.

Overall working experience there is great! Greenery environment and food quality are one of a kind.
The good things1. The office environment is the best. It is a big leadership centre with modern interior and aesthetic design, with exterior greenery where you can walk around and enjoy the view. 2. The food are also affordable and tasty. The chefs and catering staffs are from one of the known hospitality service, so you can expect the food like you eat at the hotel restaurant. 3. The colleagues are supportive. They are willing to help, energetic and positive that makes the working condition here fun and bearable.
The challenges1. The higher ups and management. The way of working of the managers and higher up bosses can be overwhelming, in regards to overexerting pressure, constant long hours of meeting, and micromanaging. They have a very high expectations and big dreams, often resulting in lack of empathy and awareness of their subordinate well-being. 2. The work can be repetitive. Most of the tasks are administrative and operation-heavy, and opportunities to learn real skills are not a lot there. If you are young and seeking growth to your skills and experience, this place is not for you to stay a long time. 3. The bosses play favourites. You can get to their good side if you can cater to your boss's needs, even get more opportunities and benefits if you can match their preferences. The way of your words can determine that regardless of your competencies.

Transformative Experience in High-Standard Corporate Governance and Operations.
The good thingsI genuinely enjoyed working at Petronas because it operates at a world-class standard with strong governance, compliance, and performance culture. Being entrusted to manage thousands of critical project documents annually strengthened my leadership, accountability, and risk management capabilities. I also valued the exposure to multinational stakeholders and cross-functional teams, which enhanced my strategic communication skills. Contributing to high-impact oil & gas projects in such a reputable organization gave me both professional growth and a strong sense of pride.
The challengesAt Petronas, the key challenge in document control is managing a high volume of critical project documentation under strict governance and audit requirements. While the processes ensure strong compliance and quality, they can sometimes impact turnaround time due to multiple approval layers. I believe further enhancement in workflow automation and cross-functional alignment would significantly improve efficiency, without compromising control standards.
