What’s it like working at Public Mutual Berhad?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Public Mutual Berhad offers strong foundations for professional growth through comprehensive training programs and learning opportunities. The company's position as Malaysia's leading unit trust provider, combined with flexible working arrangements and attractive performance-based rewards, creates an environment where motivated individuals can thrive and build their own business.

However, consultants should be prepared for certain challenges, including the commission-based income structure which can lead to initial income volatility, and the need to independently build a client base. The company's technology infrastructure could benefit from modernisation, and some employees note that career advancement opportunities may be limited in certain roles.

Toxic working environment is getting worse
The good thingsAnnual increment and bonus
The challengesInsufficient IT investment - operations still rely heavily on paper, with outdated desktops and limited digital tools. No access to modern communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom, which hampers collaboration and productivity. Strict limit on medical claims per visit, with no reimbursement from non-panel clinics even in emergency cases. Extreme favouritism toward individuals within the senior management's circle, resulting in unequal opportunities and biased decision-making. Limited or no career progression if you are not part of the preferred group. The senior management is known for excessive micromanagement, unprofessional conduct, and the use of inappropriate language during meetings, creating a tense and uncomfortable work environment. Hostile and top-down management culture Rigid and outdated business practices.
