UWE Bristol in Asia Pacific operating as UWE International Educational Services:Introduction:UWE Bristol has a large team working across Asia Pacific a part of UWE International Educational Services Sdn Bhd. The team comprises of over 80 staff servicing all the countries in the region. Our International Director and Managing Director for Asia Pacific is Professor Ray Priest and the team operate out of eight offices located in Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Bangkok Dhaka, Lahore, Guangzhou, Beijing, and Ahmadabad . A number of staff also work within our partner organisations or from home. The team includes colleagues with an academic teaching or management background, English Language specialists, government advisors, staff with experience from the commercial sector, UWE alumni, lawyers, graphic design and online marketing specialists as well as a data analyst, to name but a few!Every year over 2500 students from the region enjoy starting their studies at UWE. In addition, there are over 7000 students studying for UWE degrees in universities across Asia Pacific. These often take the form of double awards where students earn both a local and a UWE degree. The Joint Institute is one of these partners. Over 200 students from the region also attend a UWE Summer School every year.We have a network of over 220 partner universities across the region and this network supports one another with student and staff exchanges, curriculum development, research projects and student enrollment. Members from the network attend the Global Partners Conference and networking events currently held online. In addition we work with over 300 agent representatives in all the countries and territories we cover.A key feature of our work is the provision of English Language and Study Skills courses in collaboration with several our partners. Last year some 3000 students participated on one of these programmes in region.We also provide support for research projects led by colleagues from faculties. Currently, UWE has collaborative research projects being undertaken a number countries in the region, including Sri Lanka, the Maldives, India, China, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos. As part of this, UWE have either organised or participated in a range of conferences and symposiums within several Asia Pacific countries and the UWEIES team support these. We are looking to extend this work.The International Office, Asia Pacific (UWIEIS) is also engaged in a wide range of community projects ranging from supporting female students achieve higher education places from rural Cambodia, reading projects for primary school children in Laos, the provision of teaching English courses for teachers in Vietnam and sporting opportunities with Street Child United. This work is largely self-funded through the teams engagement in a range of charitable projects. Part of our work includes frequent interactions with government agencies, NGO’s, scholarship bodies and commercial organisations.The team also work across the region in supporting students who are either aspiring to go to UWE, or who have completed their studies and are stepping into employment. Our award winning Gradlink web site operates across the region providing details of specific employment opportunities in Asia. This work is being extended to combine with a new mobile application in development in China. We have a large alumni network across the whole of Asia. Our work in enriching student experience is led by a dedicated Director for Student Experience who is located in Kuala Lumpur.
