What's it like to be an Automotive Technician?
Automotive Technicians work with cars, providing maintenance and repair services. They perform a range of tasks, maintaining and fixing issues with plumbing, electrical systems, circuitry, and other systems within the car. Part of an Automotive Technician's role is to identify a problem for repair and come up with a solution. Automotive Technicians have an extensive knowledge of cars and are required to work with tools and heavy car parts. They may also be required to explain processes and fixes to customers so that they can understand what has been done.Tasks and duties
- Performing basic care and maintenance, including changing oil, giving tune-ups, checking fluid levels, and rotating tyres.
- Repairing or replacing worn parts.
- Disassembling and reassembling parts.
- Using testing equipment to ensure that repairs are effective.
- Maintaining vehicle appearance by cleaning and washing.
- Troubleshooting breakdowns.
- Reading diagnostic car devices.
How to become an Automotive Technician
You can work as an Automotive Technician without formal qualifications, however completing a qualification in automotive technology will provide you with practical and relevant skills.
- 1.Complete secondary education as general knowledge in math and science will be beneficial.
- 2.Complete a relevant qualification such as a Diploma in Automotive Technology or a Master Technician course.
