What's it like to be a Telemarketer?
Telemarketers reach out to potential customers over the phone with the objective of selling a product or service. These sales professionals use scripts that describe products or services, to persuade potential customers or to generate interest. They work in a variety of industries, such as telecommunications companies, market research organisations or charity foundations. Some Telemarketers may also be responsible for recording customers responses or transactions for training and record keeping purposes.
Tasks and duties
- Identifying potential customers through databases, phone directories or follow-up leads from existing clients.
- Delivering prepared sales scripts to influence customers to purchase a product or service.
- Recording names, addresses and reactions of people contacted in order to follow-up on positive interactions.
- Maintaining knowledge of available products or services and explaining the features, pricing and benefits to potential customers.
- Resolving customer complaints through constructive dialogue and negotiation.
- Documenting transactions and submitting sales orders for processing.
- Meeting set targets for calls made and sales achievement.
How to become a Telemarketer
Becoming a Telemarketer doesn't follow standard or formal career pathways or qualifications. However, possessing a strong phone presence and a solid understanding of computers and phones are essential prerequisites for entering this field.
- 1.Obtain a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate or equivalent to meet the basic educational requirement.
- 2.Develop fundamental computer and phone skills, coupled with a friendly phone demeanour to engage customers effectively.
- 3.While not always mandatory, having prior experience in customer service can provide valuable insights into handling inquiries and resolving issues.
- 4.Look for opportunities offering on-the-job training, allowing you to familiarize yourself with the company's systems and products, enhancing your confidence and performance as a telemarketer.
