Tasks and duties
- Interpreting and following detailed technical plans and blueprints.
- Setting up and operating machinery, tools and equipment to shape, cut and finish parts and components.
- Detecting and diagnosing faults in equipment and machinery.
- Performing repairs and replacing damaged parts in machinery and equipment.
- Carrying out routine maintenance and servicing tasks.
- Documenting and recording completion of tasks, issues identified and actions taken.
- Adhering to safety guidelines and procedures.
How to become a Fitter
Fitters are skilled workers and in demand across various industries. They specialise in fields like mechanical, pipe, and structural fitting, each requiring specific expertise.
- 1.Complete secondary education with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional (SPMV) certificate.
- 2.Enrol in a vocational training course in manufacturing technology at an Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
- 3.Obtain the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Levels 1, 2, and 3, or an equivalent certification, with Level 2 being the minimum preferred by many companies.
- 4.Gain practical experience through entry-level positions where you can apply your skills.
- 5.Continue your professional development by staying updated with industry advancements through workshops and additional training.
