What's it like to be a Secondary School Teacher?
A Secondary School Teacher is employed at a secondary school. The job includes teaching classes throughout the year, and it is the teacher’s responsibility to provide lesson plans, instruction, and grading that is compliant with the school’s curriculum and standards. Teachers may handle multiple academic levels and subject areas in their field.Tasks and duties
- Creating lesson plans in compliance with school curriculum.
- Lecturing students on a regular basis.
- Managing classrooms and disciplining students as necessary.
- Substituting absent teachers as necessary.
- Administering homework and school projects.
- Grading student performance.
- Discussing student performance with parents.
- Participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
How to become a Secondary School Teacher
It takes five years to become a certified Secondary School Teacher in Malaysia. Throughout your teaching education, you will select your subject of expertise. You will then undergo a practicum before landing your first teaching job.
- 1.Ensure you are eligible for a teaching degree. Applicants must not be younger than 20 years old, be physically fit, and active in extracurricular activities.
- 2.Complete the 1-year Program Persediaan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PPISMP). This is the preparatory course aspiring teachers must pass before teacher training.
- 3.Complete the 4-year Program Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PISMP) to get your degree in Education.
- 4.Apply to teach in SMK (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) or National Secondary Schools in Malaysia.
