- Assessing and recording students' progress by setting and marking coursework and exams.
- Pursuing ongoing professional development in English education theories and practices.
- Maintaining regular communication with parents about students' progress.
- Creating and enforcing classroom codes of conduct to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.
How to become an English Teacher
Becoming an English teacher involves more than just formal education. It includes fostering active communication, developing language skills, and guiding students to master the language.
- 1.While a bachelor's degree in any field is acceptable, a teaching qualification like Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification is often preferred.
- 2.Another route is applying directly to a Teacher Training College after completing Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) to qualify for teaching primary education.
- 3.Strengthen your English proficiency with exams like The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Good language skills are essential for effective teaching and communication as an English educator.
- 4.You can also consider pursuing a master's degree in English-related disciplines for opportunities in tertiary education roles like professor or lecturer.
