I’ve been working in finance for a few years, and recently, I’ve been thinking about my next step. I’m wondering whether I should specialize in a specific area like corporate finance or investment analysis, or if it’s better to keep a broader skill set. For those in the industry, what path has worked best for you? Should I focus on becoming an expert in one area or continue building a diverse skill set? Would love to hear your advice!

It really depends on what you're into! Specializing could make you an expert in one area, which is great for certain roles, but having a broad skill set keeps things flexible. If you’re not sure, maybe try diving into one area and see how it feels, then decide if you want to stick with it.

Both options can work well, honestly. If you like the idea of being the go to person for something specific, specializing is the way to go. But if you enjoy doing a bit of everything, keeping a broad skill set gives you more variety and options down the line

It’s all about what excites you more! If you want to be really deep in one area, specializing is cool. But if you like mixing things up, staying broad might be better. I went down the specialization route, but sometimes I wish I’d kept it more general!
