I’ve been offered a contract job, but after reviewing it, I feel like it’s heavily biased towards the employer and doesn’t offer enough protection or benefits for me. I haven’t signed it yet, but I’m not sure how to bring this up with HR without coming off as difficult. What’s the best way to ask HR to amend the contract to make it more balanced and fair for both parties? I don’t want to risk losing the opportunity, but I also don’t want to settle for something that feels unfair. Any tips?

It’s tricky, but you can try saying something like, “I reviewed the contract and I’m excited about the job, but I noticed a few areas that might need adjusting for fairness. Can we discuss them?” This keeps it positive and shows you’re looking out for both sides. Good luck!

I understand the worry. Maybe try asking for clarification like, “I went through the contract and have some questions about the benefits and protections. Can we review those to make sure it’s fair?” It opens up a discussion without sounding demanding. You’ve got this!
