Fresh Graduate
As a fresh grad, I’m interested in working in the hospitality industry but I’m not sure what degrees companies typically look for. Do they mostly prefer hotel management or tourism-related degrees? And for someone just starting out, what’s the salary range like? I’ve heard it can vary a lot depending on the role. Anyone with experience in this field who can give me some insight? Would love to know what to expect!

Most places in hospitality look for hotel management or tourism degrees, but honestly, if you’ve got a passion for it and can handle customer service, that’s what matters. For a fresh grad, starting pay is usually around RM 2,000 to RM 3,000 a month, but it depends on where you’re working. It’s not much at first, but it’s a great industry to grow in!

Hotel management or tourism degrees are pretty common, but if you’ve got something else related to business or events, that can work too! For entry-level stuff like front desk or guest services, salaries usually start around RM 2,200 to RM 3,500, depending on where you’re at. It’s not huge money at first, but once you get a bit of experience, you can definitely move up and start earning more.

Most people in hospitality have hotel management or tourism degrees, but don’t stress if you’re from a different background! As a fresh grad, expect to start around RM 2,000 to RM 3,000, but the cool part is that it’s an industry with tons of room to grow. Stick around for a couple of years and you could be moving up to better pay and roles!
