My ex-manager reached out to me and invited me for an interview at her new company. I was the first interviewee, and at that time, no job vacancy had been published online yet. The interview went okay, but I got the sense that I might not be exactly what she’s looking for, feels like a 50/50 chance. But I do have relevant experience and have worked in the same industry before. What are my chances of getting the job? The company is highly competitive, and within 3 days, 400 applicants applied.

Based on what you’ve shared, it’s possible that your ex-manager already sees potential in you, which is why she invited you for the interview. Even though the competition is fierce, your relevant experience could definitely help. Sometimes, companies have a clearer picture of what they need after the first few interviews, so your chances might depend on how you stand out. Keep your confidence up, stay patient, and don’t hesitate to follow up with her to express continued interest!
