Hi, I’m a fresh graduate, so I’m still new to the working world and don't know much about salary. I was offered a job with a RM6k salary. During the interview, when I mentioned my expected salary was RM6k, they responded by saying, “Can it be RM4.5k basic + RM1.5k allowance?” and I agreed. (Continue in comment)

But recently, I saw someone post a similar experience. They asked for RM5k, and the employer agreed, but later said it would be RM4k basic + RM1k allowance. The person got upset and questioned why the company couldn’t just give them RM5k basic + allowances on top. So now I’m wondering, is it a bad thing if your basic salary is low, but your total salary is quite high due to allowances? Also, when job-hopping, is the salary increment typically based on your basic salary or gross salary?
