Team Leader
Tried to be a fair manager, but I’m done tolerating nonsense at work. Set clear expectations, held people accountable, and somehow that makes me the villain. Apparently, asking for basic competence is “too much" and now I’m the bad guy because I won’t let things slide. 😒 It’s frustrating when the bare minimum feels like a favor instead of, you know… their actual job. At this point, I don’t even care if they like me, i just want them to do their work properly. Am i being too harsh?

I totally get what you're going through. It’s tough when you’re just trying to get things done and set the bar, but people start seeing it as you being harsh. But honestly, asking for basic competence is not too much at all. I’ve been in that position before, and it’s hard not to let things slide, but you’re right to hold people accountable. If they’re not doing their job properly, it’s on them, not you.

Bro, it’s so frustrating, right? You try to be fair, but then it feels like you’re the villain. But no, you’re not being harsh at all! It’s your job to make sure everyone does their part, and sometimes people just don’t get it until you hold them accountable. If they’re upset, that’s their problem, not yours. Stick to your principles, you’re doing what needs to be done.

Sometimes, setting clear boundaries and having expectations just gets twisted into you being 'the bad guy.' But from what you’ve said, you're doing the right thing by not letting things slide. People might not like it, but it’s part of being a good leader. Don’t let the negativity get to you, you're just holding them to the standard they should be meeting. You’re not being too harsh!
