I recently had the opportunity to interview for a Manufacturing Specialist position with a reputable company in Batu Kawan, a key industrial hub. Unfortunately, I was informed that they are seeking candidates with at least 3 years of experience, particularly in MES or SAP systems. This experience made me reflect on the common challenge faced by many who are starting their careers or looking to shift industries: how can we gain the required experience if we’re not given the opportunity ?

Don’t let it discourage you. My advice would be to start by gaining relevant experience in any way possible. Look into part-time roles, internships, or even projects that allow you to work with MES or SAP systems. Also, consider joining industry-specific forums or online communities where you can learn from others. In time, the experience will come, and you’ll be better prepared for your next opportunity.

While I understand the need for specific skills, I firmly believe that practical learning and a willingness to grow should be equally valued. To bridge this gap, I am exploring internship programs, online courses, and other opportunities to gain hands-on experience with MES and SAP systems. In addition, I would love to hear thoughts from those in the industry: What are your suggestions for those of us looking to gain exposure to these systems, even if we don’t yet have direct experience ?
