Okay, so I moved to Kota Kinabalu for work, and being from Semenanjung, I thought I was ready to blend in. First day, my colleague greeted me with "Apa ko mau?" I froze, thinking she was mad at me. I awkwardly smiled and said, "Err... I don’t want anything?" She looked at me like I was from another planet. 😂 Turns out, she just wanted to ask if I needed anything. I’m still getting used to the dialect, but now I know it’s just part of the fun here! 😅

that’s too funny! I bet you were like, "What did I just walk into?" But don’t worry, you’ll get used to the slang here fast. "Apa ko mau?" is super common, and once you catch on, you’ll be saying it like a local! Welcome to KK, enjoy the dialect, it’s all part of the experience!

I can totally relate to that! I had the same moment when I first heard "Apa ko mau?" and was like, "Is she mad at me?" But now it’s just part of the vibe here. You’ll be using it yourself soon enough, no stress. Sabah’s chill like that, just takes a bit to get used to!

At first, the dialects here can throw you off, but after a while, it’ll just be second nature. "Apa ko mau?" is a totally normal way to ask if you need anything, just gotta roll with it! You’ll be chatting like a local before you know it!
