I'm an expat who's been working in Malaysia for 6 months. My work contract was for a year, but due to circumstances, my company and I agreed on a mutual separation, meaning I have to leave Malaysia soon. My company is offering compensation, and HR asked if I want it sent to my local RHB account or a dollar account. I'd prefer my RHB account but am concerned about keeping it active after my work visa ends. Can I keep the account open, and how do I prevent it from going dormant?

Generally you can keep a Malaysian bank account open as long as you maintain some level of activity. To prevent from dormant, can consider keeping a small balance in the account and making occasional transactions. Also better to check with bank directly to confirm their specific policies and any steps you should take. This way, you can make sure your account stays active and you don’t face any issues with your compensation.
